Tie No. 1 Ipswich Town (EFL Championship) v Sheffield United (EFL Championship)

Levels: Level 2 v Level 2 (Saturday 3.0pm)

Best Runs: WINNERS v WINNERS

History: Three previous FA Cup meetings. Ipswich Town won the first meeting in 1974, but the Blades won the last two times.

Facts: It is eight years since Ipswich Town last won an FA Cup tie, the longest current winless run of any side who start their Cup run in the 3rd Round. Conversely, Sheffield United have a good recent record in the FA Cup, being the last third tier club to make the

Semi-Finals four years ago.

 

Tie No. 2 Watford (Premier League) v Bristol City (EFL Championship)

Levels: Level 1 v Level 2 (Saturday 3.0pm)

Best Runs: RUNNERS-UP v RUNNERS-UP

History: Two previous FA Cup meetings, both won by Watford 82 years apart.

Facts: Watford has only failed to go beyond the 3rd Round three times in the last 11 seasons, including two semi-final appearances in that time. Conversely, Bristol City has only gone past the 3rd Round three times during the same period.

 

Tie No. 3 Birmingham City (EFL Championship) v Burton Albion (EFL Championship)

Best Runs: RUNNERS-UP v Round 4

History: No previous FA Cup meetings, although Birmingham City beat both Burton Swifts and Burton Wanderers in past FA Cup runs

Facts: Birmingham City last won an FA Cup tie three seasons ago. A win for Burton Albion would take the Brewers into the FA Cup 4th Round for only the second ever time.

History: 17 previous FA Cup meetings, the most times the same two clubs have been drawn together in the FA Cup ‘Proper’ Rounds. Liverpool has won 10 of those meetings, but never at Anfield.

Facts: It is seven years since Liverpool failed to progress beyond the 3rd Round of the FA Cup. Everton has exited the FA Cup in this Round twice in the last three seasons.

History: Two previous FA Cup meetings with one win apiece, although the last meeting 41 seasons ago required three ties to settle it.

Facts: Brighton and Hove Albion has only once failed to progress beyond the 3rd Round in their last eight campaigns. Crystal Palace has also made progress beyond this Round in each of their last four seasons.

History: One previous FA Cup meeting 57 years ago won 2-1 by Aston Villa in a replay during Peterborough United’s first season as a Football League club.

Facts: Aston Villa has only failed to go beyond the 3rd Round twice in their last nine FA Cup campaigns. Conversely, Peterborough United has only once gone beyond the 3rd Round during the same period.

 

Tie No. 7 AFC Bournemouth (Premier League) v Wigan Athletic (EFL 1)

Best Runs: QUARTER FINALS v WINNERS

History: Two previous FA Cup meetings both won by the current lower league side Wigan Athletic, the last time five years ago ended with Wigan lifting the trophy.

Facts: AFC Bournemouth has gone beyond the 3rd Round in three of the last four seasons, but also three in the last twelve. Wigan Athletic has only won one FA Cup tie since reaching the Semi-Finals four years ago.

History: One previous FA Cup meeting won 1-0 by the current lower league side Coventry City on their way to lifting the trophy in 1987.

Facts: This is the first time Coventry City has made the 3rd Round for four years. Stoke City is competing in the FA Cup for the 125th time, but last season was the first time the club failed to progress beyond the 3rd Round in eight FA Cup campaigns.

History: No previous FA Cup meetings, although Leeds United lost 3-1 to original Newport County in 1948-49 season.

Facts: Newport County is appearing in the FA Cup 3rd Round for the second time in three seasons. Leeds United has exited the FA Cup in the 3rd Round four times in the last seven seasons.

Facts: Last season was the first time in eight years Bolton Wanderers failed to go beyond the 3rd of the FA Cup. Huddersfield Town has gone out in the 3rd Round twice in the last three years.

History: No previous FA Cup meetings.

Facts: Yeovil Town has progressed beyond the 3rd Round of the FA Cup just once in the last 12 seasons. For Bradford City it is once in 17 campaigns, but that season three years ago they did make the Quarter Finals, further than Yeovil have ever gone.

History: Three previous FA Cup meetings, Forest with one win, Arsenal with two.

Facts: Nottingham Forest has gone out of the FA Cup in the 3rd Round five times in the last eight seasons. It is 22 years since the Gunners exited in the 3rd Round and if Arsenal go on to retain the FA Cup this season they will become the first club to win it four times in five consecutive seasons.

Facts: Last year was just the second time in 11 seasons that Brentford made it beyond the 3rd Round of the FA Cup. This is the first time in six seasons that Notts County has actually made it as far as the 3rd Round.

Facts: Queens Park Rangers has one of the worst recent FA Cup records having not won in the competition for five years and just twice in their last 16 campaigns. Milton Keynes Dons has only progressed beyond the 3rd Round twice in their 13 previous campaigns.

History: Nine previous FA Cup meetings with Derby County only winning the first two when Manchester United were still known as Newton Heath.

Facts: Manchester United has had just two FA Cup 3rd Round exits in their last 32 campaigns. Derby County has only gone out at this stage twice in the last 13 years themselves.

Facts: Exeter City is competing in the FA Cup for the 100th time and are looking to make the 4th Round for the first time in 37 years. West Bromwich Albion is competing in the FA Cup for the 125th time, but has exited in the 3rd Round in four of their last seven campaigns.

Facts: It is eight years since Doncaster Rovers progressed beyond the 3rd Round of the FA Cup. Rochdale is competing in the FA Cup for the 100th time and has reached the 4th Round in three of the last four seasons.

 

Tie No. 18 Tottenham Hotspur (Premier League) v AFC Wimbledon (EFL 1)

History: No previous FA Cup meetings, but Tottenham Hotspur beat the original Wimbledon FC in all three FA Cup meetings.

Facts: Tottenham Hotspur lost in the FA Cup semi-finals last season creating a new record of seven consecutive semi-final appearances without progressing to the Final. AFC Wimbledon is equalling the club’s best FA Cup run to the 3rd Round for the third time in four seasons.

History: Five previous FA Cup meetings, three won by Sunderland, excluding their first 4-2 victory in 1887-88 season when the Black Cats were disqualified and the tie awarded to Middlesbrough.

Facts: Over the last eight seasons both Middlesbrough and Sunderland have been knocked out of the FA Cup in the 3rd Round half of the time.

Facts: Fleetwood Town is equalling the club’s best ever FA Cup run for the second successive season and for the third time in total. Over the last 10 seasons Leicester City has lost as many FA Cup 3rd Round ties as they’ve won.
