Tie No. 1 Stevenage (EFL 2) v Nantwich Town (Northern Premier League Premier)

Levels: Level 4 v Level 7

Best Runs: Round 5 v Round 1

History: No previous FA Cup meetings.

Facts: Stevenage has exited the FA Cup in the 1st Round ‘Proper’ three times in the last five seasons. Nantwich Town is appearing at this stage of the competition for only the second time, the only previous occasion resulting in a 6-0 defeat at MK Dons six years ago.

 

Tie No. 2 Bradford City (EFL 1) v Chesterfield (EFL 2)

Levels: Level 3 v Level 4

Best Runs: WINNERS v SEMI FINALS

History: Three previous FA Cup meetings, Chesterfield up by two wins to one, including being the first club to ever knock Bradford City out of the FA Cup in 1903.

Facts: Bradford City famously made the Quarter Finals three seasons ago but have four Round One exits in last eight seasons. It is six years since Chesterfield last went out of the FA Cup this early.

 

 

 

Tie No. 3 Port Vale (EFL 2) v Oxford United (EFL 1)

Levels: Level 4 v Level 3 (Friday night)

Best Runs: SEMI FINALS v QUARTER FINALS

History: One previous FA Cup meeting, a 1st Round tie back in 1965/66 season, won 3-2 by Port Vale after a 2-2 draw.

Facts: Port Vale is tracking to a 4th Round exit this season having gone out of the FA Cup in the 1st Round, 2nd Round and 3rd Round successively in the last three seasons. It is six years since Oxford United last were knocked out of the FA Cup as early as this round.

 

 

 

Tie No. 4 Newport County (EFL 2) v Walsall (EFL 1)

Levels: Level 4 v Level 3 (Saturday evening on S4C)

Best Runs: Round 3* v Round 5             *Since re-forming in 1989

History: No previous FA Cup meetings since Newport County re-formed, but Walsall met the original club seven times between 1930/31 and 1974/75 winning the first three and the last one.

Facts: Newport County has exited the FA Cup in the 1st Round just once in their four previous seasons as a Football League club. Walsall has done the same three times in the last five years.

 

 

Tie No. 5 Morecambe (EFL 2) v Hartlepool United (National League)

Levels: Level 4 v Level 5

Best Runs: Round 3 v Round 4

History: No previous FA Cup meetings, despite having collectively 190 FA Cup campaigns between them.

Facts: Morecambe has exited the FA Cup in the 1st Round in each of the last four seasons and has just two Cup wins in the 10 years since becoming a Football League club. Hartlepool United is competing in the FA Cup for the 100th time and has not failed to progress beyond this round in those same last four seasons.

 

 

 

Tie No. 6 Yeovil Town (EFL 2) v Southend United (EFL 1)

Levels: Level 4 v Level 3

Best Runs: Round 5 v Round 5

History: Three previous FA Cup meetings with Yeovil Town up two wins to one despite all three meetings happening whilst the Glovers were a non-league club.

Facts: Yeovil Town has had six FA Cup 1st Round exits in the 14 years since becoming a Football League club, including last season. Southend United has gone out of the FA Cup at this stage in each of the last three seasons.

Tie No. 7 Peterborough United (EFL 1) v Tranmere Rovers (National League)

Levels: Level 3 v Level 5

Best Runs: QUARTER FINALS v QUARTER FINALS

History: Six previous FA Cup meetings all won by Peterborough United with a goal difference of 16 to 3 (there was one 0-0 draw). This is the most common tie of the 1st Round.

Facts: It is 12 years since Peterborough United last exited the FA Cup as early as the 1st Round. Tranmere Rovers is appearing in this round for the first time since becoming a non-league club at the end of the 2014/15 season.

 

 

 

Tie No. 8 Cambridge United (EFL 2) v Sutton United (National League)

Levels: Level 4 v Level 5 (Sunday afternoon on BBC)

Best Runs: QUARTER FINALS v Round 5

History: No previous FA Cup meetings.

Facts: Cambridge United has not failed to progress beyond this round since returning to being a Football League club over the last three seasons. Sutton United recorded the club’s best ever FA Cup run just last season defeating three EFL clubs en route to the 5th Round.

Tie No. 9 Forest Green Rovers (EFL 2) v Macclesfield Town (National League)

Levels: Level 4 v Level 5

Best Runs: Round 3 v Round 4

History: One previous FA Cup meeting 16 years ago when the respective league status were reversed eventually won by league side Macclesfield Town on penalties.

*Assumes both AFC Wimbledon and MK Dons were considered as being ‘new’ clubs when ‘forming’.

Facts: Forest Green Rovers become the 144th club* to represent the Football League in the FA Cup, after having gone beyond the 1st Round just once in the last seven years. Macclesfield Town is tracking to a 3rd Round exit having gone out in the 4th qualifying Round, 1st Round and 2nd Round in last three years.

 

Tie No. 10 AFC Fylde (National League) v Kidderminster Harriers (National League North)

Levels: Level 5 v Level 6

Best Runs: Round 1 v Round 5

History: No previous FA Cup meetings.

Facts: This is the fourth time in six seasons AFC Fylde has appeared in the FA Cup 1st Round, but it will be the first time the club has not come up against a Football League opponent. Kidderminster Harriers has the same number of 1st Round appearances during the same time period, but did progress to the 4th Round four years ago.

 

Tie No. 11 Luton Town (EFL 2) v Portsmouth (EFL 1)

Levels: Level 4 v Level 3

Best Runs: FINALISTS v WINNERS

History: Three previous FA Cup meetings all won by Luton Town, the last time 30 years ago in a Quarter Final when both clubs were top flight teams.

Facts: Luton Town has only gone out as early as the 1st Round once in the last 15 years which includes five seasons as a non-league side. Portsmouth has only gone beyond this round once in the last five years since the club has had to start this early.

 

Tie No. 12 Shrewsbury Town (EFL 1) v Aldershot Town (National League)

Levels: Level 3 v Level 5

Best Runs: QUARTER FINALS v Round 4

History: No previous FA Cup meetings, although Shrewsbury Town twice met original Aldershot FC with one win apiece.

Facts: It is four years since Shrewsbury Town exited the FA Cup as early as the 1st Round ‘Proper’. Aldershot Town has only once progressed beyond this round during the same time period.

 

 

Tie No. 13 Hereford (Southern League Premier) v AFC Telford United (National League North)

Levels: Level 7 v Level 6

Best Runs: 3rd qualifying v Round 2

History: No previous FA Cup meetings, although predecessor clubs Hereford United and Telford United met three times, Hereford winning just one all while Telford were known as Wellington Town.

Facts: Hereford is competing in the FA Cup for just the second time and has already now gone further than 2,385 other clubs have ever done. This is the fifth time AFC Telford has made the 1st Round ‘Proper’, but the club has only gone further on one occasion.

 

 

 

Tie No. 14 Guiseley (National League) v Accrington Stanley (EFL 2)

Levels: Level 5 v Level 4 (Sunday afternoon on BBC)

Best Runs: Round 1 v Round 4

History: No previous FA Cup meetings.

Facts: This is the 7th time Guiseley has appeared in the 1st Round ‘Proper’, the 3rd highest number of 1st Round appearances of clubs never have to progressed to the 2nd Round. Accrington Stanley equalled the club’s best FA Cup run to the 4th Round just last season. No Accrington club has ever gone further.

 

Tie No. 15 Blackburn Rovers (EFL 1) v Barnet (EFL 2)

Levels: Level 3 v Level 4

Best Runs: WINNERS v Round 4

History: No previous FA Cup meetings.

Facts: This is the first time Blackburn Rovers has had to start the club’s FA Cup run as early as the 1st Round for 38 years, and has not tasted defeat in this round for a further nine years before then. Barnet has progressed beyond the 1st Round just three times in the nine seasons since last posting the club’s best Cup run.

 

 

 

Tie No. 16 Ebbsfleet United (National League) v Doncaster Rovers (EFL 1)

Levels: Level 5 v Level 3

Best Runs: Round 4 v Round 5

History: No previous FA Cup meetings.

Facts: This is the first time in five seasons Ebbsfleet United has made it through to the 1st Round ‘Proper’ and it is 14 years since the club went any further. Doncaster Rovers exited the FA Cup in the 1st Round for the first time in 10 years last season.

 

 

Tie No. 17 Leatherhead (Isthmian League Premier) v Billericay Town (Isthmian League Premier)

Levels: Level 7 v Level 7 (Sunday afternoon on BBC)

Best Runs: Round 4 v Round 1

History: One previous FA Cup meeting, a 3rd qualifying round tie six years ago won 3-0 by Leatherhead.

Facts: One of only two FA Cup 1st Round ties pitting two clubs who will meet in the League this season. Leatherhead is appearing in this round for the first time in 11 years and it is a further 28 years since The Tanners went any further. Joint top scorers in this year’s FA Cup with 23 goals, Billericay Town is in the 1st Round for only the 4th time in the club’s history.

 

Tie No. 18 Boreham Wood (National League) v Blackpool (EFL 1)

Levels: Level 5 v Level 3

Best Runs: Round 2 v WINNERS

History: One previous FA Cup meeting, a 1st Round tie 14 years ago won 4-0 by Blackpool.

Facts: This is the 3rd successive year, and the 5th time in six seasons, that Boreham Wood has reached the 1st Round ‘Proper’, but it is 20 years since the club made Round Two. Blackpool has only exited the FA Cup as early as this stage three times in that same 20 year period.

 

Tie No. 19 Shaw Lane Association (Northern Premier League Premier) v Mansfield Town (EFL 2)

Levels: Level 7 v Level 4 (Saturday lunchtime on BT Sport)

Best Runs: preliminary v QUARTER FINALS

History: No previous FA Cup meetings.

Facts: Shaw Lane Association is competing in the FA Cup for just the 3rd time and before this season had never won an FA Cup tie. Thanks to this season’s terrific run, the club has now won twice as many FA Cup ties than it has lost. Mansfield Town has exited the FA Cup in the 1st Round ‘Proper’ in both the last two seasons.

 

Tie No. 20 Colchester United (EFL 2) v Oxford City (National League South)

Levels: Level 4 v Level 6

Best Runs: QUARTER FINALS v Round 2

History: No previous FA Cup meetings.

Facts: Colchester United has exited the FA Cup in the 1st Round ‘Proper’ three times in the last five seasons, including last year. Oxford City is appearing in this round for the first time in six years and it is 48 years since the club’s only ever 2nd Round appearance.

 

 

 

Tie No. 21 Plymouth Argyle (EFL 1) v Grimsby Town (EFL 2)

Levels: Level 3 v Level 4

Best Runs: SEMI FINALS v SEMI FINALS

History: No previous FA Cup meetings.

Facts: The longest round-trip of the FA Cup 1st Round, which may help explain why it is their first FA Cup meeting in 231 combined campaigns. Plymouth Argyle has gone out as early as this stage just once in the last four seasons. Grimsby Town has suffered the same fate twice in the same period.

 

 

 

Tie No. 22 AFC Wimbledon (EFL 1) v Lincoln City (EFL 2)

Levels: Level 3 v Level 4

Best Runs: Round 3 v QUARTER FINALS

History: No previous FA Cup meetings.

Facts: Both clubs achieved their best ever FA Cup run last year. AFC Wimbledon achieved the 3rd Round for the second time in three seasons. Lincoln City memorably made the Quarter Finals for the first time in their 123rd FA Cup campaign to famously become the first Non-League club to make the last eight for 103 years.

 

 

 

Tie No. 23 Rochdale (EFL 1) v Bromley (National League)

Levels: Level 3 v Level 5

Best Runs: Round 5 v Round 2

History: No previous FA Cup meetings.

Facts: Rochdale is competing in the FA Cup for the 100th time and hold the record for the most FA Cup 1st Round exits with 51, but it is five years since the club last failed to go beyond this round. Bromley is appearing in the 1st Round ‘Proper’ for the first time in three years and the club has not gone further since a trio of 2nd Round appearances either side of World War II.

 

Tie No. 24 Coventry City (EFL 2) v Maidenhead United (National League)

Levels: Level 4 v Level 5

Best Runs: WINNERS v QUARTER FINALS

History: No previous FA Cup meetings.

Facts: Coventry City has just one FA Cup win in three seasons and lost at home to Non-League opposition three years ago. This is the second time Maidenhead United has made the 1st Round ‘Proper’ in three seasons, but the club has to go all the way back to before the Football League was established for its last 2nd Round appearance.

 

Tie No. 25 Chorley (National League North) v Fleetwood Town (EFL 1)

Levels: Level 6 v Level 3 (Monday evening on BT)

Best Runs: Round 2 v Round 3

History: No previous FA Cup meetings, but this will be the fourth different Fleetwood club Chorley will have faced in the competition.

Facts: Chorley is appearing in the 1st Round ‘Proper’ for the first time in 27 seasons when the club last achieved its best Cup run. Fleetwood Town equalled the club’s best FA Cup run just last season.

 

 

Tie No. 26 Carlisle United (EFL 2) v Oldham Athletic (EFL 1)

Levels: Level 4 v Level 3

Best Runs: QUARTER FINALS v SEMI FINALS

History: One previous FA Cup meeting, a 3-0 win to Oldham Athletic in the 1st Round 14 years ago.

Facts: Carlisle United has exited the FA Cup as early as the 1st Round ‘Proper’ just once in the last nine seasons. It is seven years since Oldham Athletic last failed to go beyond this round.

 

 

 

Tie No. 27 Notts County (EFL 2) v Bristol Rovers (EFL 1)

Levels: Level 4 v Level 3 (Friday night)

Best Runs: WINNERS v QUARTER FINALS

History: One previous FA Cup meeting 105 years ago, a 1st Round tie won 2-0 by Bristol Rovers.

Facts: Notts County won an FA Cup tie last season for the first time in four years. Bristol Rovers has a slightly better recent FA Cup record but has exited to Non-League clubs in both the last two seasons.

 

 

 

Tie No. 28 Dartford (National League South) v Swindon Town (EFL 2)

Levels: Level 6 v Level 4 (Sunday afternoon on BBC)

Best Runs: Round 3 v SEMI FINALS

History: One previous FA Cup meeting 84 years ago, a 2nd Round tie won 1-0 by Swindon Town.

Facts: It is the fourth time in five seasons that Dartford has made it through to the 1st Round ‘Proper’. Swindon Town has not won an FA Cup tie during that same five year period.

 

 

 

Tie No. 29 Cheltenham Town (EFL 2) v Maidstone United (National League)

Levels: Level 4 v Level 5

Best Runs: Round 5 v Round 2

History: No previous FA Cup meetings.

Facts: Cheltenham Town has alternately lost then won in the FA Cup 1st Round over the last four seasons. Maidstone United is appearing in the 1st Round ‘Proper’ for the fourth successive season, although it is three years since the club made the 2nd Round.

 

 

Tie No. 30 Woking (National League) v Bury (EFL 1)

Levels: Level 5 v Level 3 (Sunday afternoon on BBC)

Best Runs: Round 4 v WINNERS

History: No previous FA Cup meetings.

Facts: Woking went beyond the FA Cup 1st Round last season for the first time in 11 years. Bury has gone out in this round five times during that same 11 year period, including last season.

 

 

 

 

Tie No. 31 Crewe Alexandra (EFL 2) v Rotherham United (EFL 1)

Levels: Level 4 v Level 3

Best Runs: SEMI FINALS v Round 5

History: Four previous FA Cup meetings, the first two won by Rotherham United, the latter two won by Crewe Alexandra, both of which were 4th Round ties.

Facts: Crewe Alexandra is appearing in the FA Cup for the 125th time but has not won an FA Cup tie for five years whilst Rotherham United has not exited the FA Cup as early as the 1st Round for seven seasons.

 

Tie No. 32 Gillingham (EFL 1) v Leyton Orient (National League)

Levels: Level 3 v Level 5

Best Runs: QUARTER FINALS v SEMI FINALS

History: Four previous FA Cup meetings, three won by Gillingham, but Leyton Orient has scored the more goals in their FA Cup encounters (8 to 7).

Facts: Gillingham has lost its last five FA Cup ties whilst Leyton Orient has only gone out as early as this round twice in the last seven seasons.

 

 

 

Tie No. 33 Hyde United (Northern Premier League 1 North) v Milton Keynes Dons (EFL 1)

Levels: Level 8 v Level 3 (Friday night on BBC)

Best Runs: Round 1 v Round 5

History: No previous FA Cup meetings, unsurprising given this tie contains the largest gap in League status of all 1st Round ties.

Facts: Hyde United is appearing in the 1st Round ‘Proper’ for the first time in 23 years and for only the fourth time since forming just after World War I. It will be the clubs sixth FA Cup tie this season. Milton Keynes Dons has not gone out of the FA Cup as early as the 1st Round ‘Proper’ for six seasons.

 

Tie No. 34 Gainsborough Trinity (National League North) v Slough Town (Southern League Premier)

Levels: Level 6 v Level 7

Best Runs: Round 3 v Round 2

History: No previous FA Cup meetings.

Facts: Gainsborough Trinity is in to the 1st Round ‘Proper’ for the second time in three seasons, but it is 65 years since the club went any further. It is the first time in five seasons Slough Town has made the 1st Round ‘Proper’, but The Rebels have only waited 13 years to make it through to the next round.

Tie No. 35 Solihull Moors (National League) v Wycombe Wanderers (EFL 2)

Levels: Level 5 v Level 4 (Sunday afternoon on BBC)

Best Runs: Round 2 v SEMI FINALS

History: No previous FA Cup meetings.

Facts: Solihull Moors made it through to the FA Cup 1st Round ‘Proper’ for the first time ever last season on their way to the 2nd Round. Wycombe Wanderers has not gone out of the FA Cup as early as the 1st Round for five years and the club is tracking to a 5th Round exit this season after going one round further than the previous year in each of the last three seasons.

 

 

 

Tie No. 36 Northampton Town (EFL 1) v Scunthorpe United (EFL 1)

Levels: Level 3 v Level 3

Best Runs: Round 5 v Round 5

History: No previous FA Cup meetings.

Facts: One of only two FA Cup 1st Round ties that pits teams together who will face each other in their League this season. It is three years since Northampton Town exited the FA Cup as early as the 1st Round ‘Proper’. Scunthorpe United has gone out at this stage four times in the last six seasons, including last year.

Tie No. 37 Charlton Athletic (EFL 1) v Truro City (National League South)

Levels: Level 3 v Level 6 (Sunday afternoon on BBC)

Best Runs: WINNERS v 3rd qualifying

History: No previous FA Cup meetings.

Facts: Charlton Athletic has not exited the FA Cup as early as the 1st Round ‘Proper’ for eight years. Truro City is appearing in the FA Cup 1st Round ‘Proper’ for the first time ever in the club’s 31st FA Cup campaign. The White Tigers are only the second ever Cornish based club to make it this far in the FA Cup following on from Falmouth Town who achieved the feat three times in the 1960s.

 

 

 

Tie No. 38 Wigan Athletic (EFL 1) v Crawley Town (EFL 2)

Levels: Level 3 v Level 4

Best Runs: WINNERS v Round 5

History: No previous FA Cup meetings.

Facts: Wigan Athletic has only exited the FA Cup as early as the 1st Round once in the last 15 years, although that only covers three appearances in it. Crawley Town has gone out in this round in each of the last three seasons.

 

 

 

 

Tie No. 39 Gateshead (National League) v Chelmsford City (National League South)

Best Runs: Round 3 v Round 4

History: No previous FA Cup meetings.

Facts: Gateshead is appearing in the FA Cup 1st Round ‘Proper’ for the first time in three seasons, since the club set its best FA Cup run. Chelmsford City has reached this staged of the competition for the first time in five seasons.

 

 

 

Tie No. 40 Exeter City (EFL 2) v Heybridge Swifts (Isthmian League 1 North)

Levels: Level 4 v Level 8 (Sunday afternoon on BBC)

Best Runs: QUARTER FINALS v Round 1

History: No previous FA Cup meetings.

Facts: Exeter City is appearing in the FA Cup for the 100th time, but has exited the FA Cup in the 1st Round in 49 of them, including six times in the last seven seasons. Heybridge Swifts is competing in the club’s sixth FA Cup tie this season and is appearing in the 1st Round ‘Proper’ for the first time in 15 years and for only the fourth time ever.
