  1. Dear Sir,
I’m not on Twitter and so don’t know how else to contact you. Earlier this year you had an exchange of Tweets with @wgcfcfans regarding Welwyn Garden City’s history in the tournament. I’d discovered an error in the FA’s online archive where WGC FC had been confused with Welwyn FC in a cup tie in the early 1920’s. Well, another error in that archive had been discovered and I wanted to make you aware in case that archive is your main source of information. The tie that took place 5.9.1931, Shredded Wheat v WGC never took place. Shredded Wheat actually played at home to Hoddesdon Town in the Cup. WGC received a bye and played a friendly instead. The result of the Shredded Wheat v Hoddesdon Town game is reported in our local newspaper as 1-4, so that will require further research to confirm the actual result. I hope this information is helpful. Regards, Mick Barnett, Welwyn Garden City.

    1. Hi Mick, I really appreciate you taking the time and effort to contact me. I’m always keen to ensure the accuracy of my data (in the knowledge that it probably will never be 100% correct). I have used many sources to confirm the results, but obviously have not been able to check and double check every single one. Interestingly the result for the game you say never took place has been recorded as a 5-1 win for Welwyn Garden City. I’ll have to try to delve through my data to see the source for that. If you could show me a picture of the newspaper report for Shredded Wheat v Hoddesdon Town I’d really appreciate seeing it. Thanks
