FA Cup 3rd Qualifying Round – Tie by Tie Review

1 Harrogate Town’s 3-0 win over 10 man Burscough means they now hold a 2-1 lead in terms of FA Cup victories between the two teams

2 Salford City’s dream of making 4th Qualifying Rd is still alive after holding Bradford Park Avenue to a 1-1 draw. And the dream came true with a 1-0 Extra Time replay win

3 Whitley Bay came close to overcoming the three step gap between themselves and Chorley but lost by the odd goal in five

4. Stourbridge have now beaten Rushall Olympic both times the two team have met in the Cup, but this 1-0 win was much closer than the 5-0 win four years ago

5 Solihull Moors have another chance of equalling their best ever Cup run with a 1-1 draw against Worcester City. 1-0 win in Replay sees Worcester with the chance to emulate last season’s journey to the 2nd Round.

6 Clubs involved in Sunday’s tie, FC United of Manchester and Buxton, need to go again after becoming the seventh tie of the Round to end one apiece. FC United of Manchester progress after winning replay 2-0.

7 Northwich Victoria are living a charmed life following the club playing ineligible players in earlier rounds and this 4-2 win gives them a chance to make the 1st Round for first time in six years.

8 Chasetown and Stalybridge Celtic go again in mid-week after their own 1-1 draw, a very common scoreline for the drawn games. Celtic progress after a late goal secures a 2-0 win

9 North Ferriby United will now at least equal their best ever Cup run following their 2-1 win over Nuneaton Town who are out of the Cup at this early stage in only the second time

10 The gulf in divisions proved too much as AFC Fylde romped to a 9-0 over their Step 5 opponents Coleshill Town, but the visitors can be proud of equalling their best ever Cup run

11 Barwell’s 1-0 win over King’s Lynn Town means the club will at least equal its best ever Cup run

12 Alfreton Town’s 4-2 win at Hednesford Town exacted revenge for their 2-1 replay defeat to the same side eight years ago. The Reds will now be hoping for a home draw against a club from another Division than their own.

13 Droylsden came oh so close to an amazing comeback against higher league opposition cancelling out a 3-0 deficit only to lose 4-3 at the last. Trinity now hols a 2-1 lead over The Bloods in terms of FA Cup wins between the two teams.

14 Step 5 outfit Sporting Khalsa are in the hat, and having already set a Personal Best in the competition they will be looking to extend that run, helped in the knowledge that Spalding United hasn’t gone beyond Q3 in 11 years. An outstanding 2-1 win for Sporting Khalsa ensures they will be the last remaining club standing from the 368 who entered at the Extra Preliminary Round stage.

15 Rugby Town’s 31 year wait to be present in 4th Qualifying Round is still something they can banish as they go again against Brackley Town. Unfortunately for Rugby Town the wait goes on as it is Brackley Town who progress following a 2-0 win

16 Kettering Town and Bamber Bridge also have to go again after yet another 1-1 draw. A tight 3-2 replay sees Bamber Bridge go through to the fourth qualifying round for the first time in eight years.

17 AFC Rushden Diamonds will appear in the 4th Qualifying Round for the first time ever after their 2-0 victory over Ashton United

18 Harlow Town and Bath City will replay after their own draw, in their case it was 2-2. Harlow Town progress to 4th Qualifying Round for 1st time in seven years following their 2-1 win

19 Staines Town well and truly put to rest their defeat to East Thurrock United 12 years ago in the Cup in fine style finally winning the game 6-3

20 The Rocks of Bognor Regis Town overcame high flying Oxford City from a level above to reach the 4th Qualifying Round for the 1st time in 11 year

21 The all National League South clash between Basingstoke Town and Chelmsford City also ended 4-2 to the Hampshire based side

22 Maidstone United progressed relatively comfortably 2-0 at home to Dunstable Town who can console themselves in the knowledge the club ha equalled its best ever Cup run

23 Step 5 side Hartley Wintney exit the competition in the cruellest of fashions holding their Step 2 opponents Eastbourne Borough beyond the 90 minutes only to succumb to a late, late winner

24 Gloucester City progressed 3-1 at lower level side Leiston who had been reduced to 10 men when their keeper wa dismissed in the first half

25 Poole Town won 2-0 at one step lower Hastings United

26 Which of Hoddesdon Town and Brentwood Town will reach the 4th Qualifying Round for the first time is still yet to be decided following their goalless draw. In a very tight game it is Brentwood Town who will taste 4th Qualifying Round football for the first time ever. Hoddesdon Town can be proud to have lasted for five rounds having kicked the whole competition off back on the 14th August

27 Didcot Town will at least equal their best ever Cup run following their 4-1 win at home to Step 5 Eastbourne Town

28 The South coast Derby between Whitehawk and Gosport Borough will need to be played again following their 2-2 draw, with the Hawks still hopeful of at least equalling their best ever Cup run. It was 2-1 to Whitehawk in both goals scored and players sent-off, but the win means the Hawks will at least equal their best ever FA Cup run

29 Enfield Town are still in the competition and still dreaming of getting to the 4th Qualifying Round for the first time ever after being held to a goalless draw by Hitchin Town. A fine 2-1 win in the replay means Enfield Town will be in 4th Qualifying Round for the first time in their history in their 13th FA Cup campaign.

30 Players of Wingate and Finchley maybe disappointed following their 3-1 home loss to higher league Weston-super-Mare, but they can be proud of equalling the club’s best ever Cup run

31 North Leigh’s dream of making the 4th Qualifying Round for the first time has been dashed, but the club has equalled its best ever Cup run. Chesham will appear in 4th Qualifying Round for first time in 15 years following their 2-0 win

32 Hanwell Town have set a new personal best in the FA Cup despite their narrow 2-1 defeat at home to Grays Athletic

33 Following their 4-1 win today Margate will be in 4th Qualifying Round for first time in 12 years. Truro City may be out but the club can be proud of equalling its best ever Cup run

34 In the end Brockenhurst couldn’t overcome the three Step gap between themselves and Wealdstone going down 5-1, but the club has equalled its best ever Cup run

35 The 81 year wait to appear in the 4th Qualifying Round goes on for Uxbridge following their 3-0 home defeat to Chippenham Town

36 The National League South sides Hemel Hempstead Town and Sutton United will replay following their 1-1. The sides drew when they met two years ago with Sutton going on to win the replay. History repeats itself as Sutton win replay 2-1 with (but with both Managers dismissed from their dugouts).

37 Petersfield Town are out after a tight 1-0 home defeat to St Albans City, but reaching the 3rd Qualifying Round is three rounds further than the club has ever been before in the Cup

38 In the end the two step gap was too much for Aveley going down 2-0 at home to Havant and Waterlooville

39 When Worthing and AFC Hornchurch met in the Cup eight years ago The Rebels ran out 4-1 winners. Well that defeat has well and truly been avenged as the Essex based side win by the same 4-1 scoreline

40 Another Step 5 side Blackfield and Langley fell to a Step 2 outfit in the shape of Maidenhead United but i  no way did they disgrace themselves losing by just the solitary goal

Q2 Round

Despite being forced to replay their 2nd Qualifying Round against Hyde United due to having played an ineligible player in the previous win, Northwich Victoria managed to finally make it to the 3rd Qualifying Round with a 2-1 win
